Bette Davis Eyes!!!!

Just got back from the Bette Davis movie marathon at the Loews in Journal Square. Last night, we saw Now, Voyager which I felt was adorable, funny, charming, and an overall wonderful romantic comedy. They just don't make 'em like that anymore.

This afternoon was Jezebel. While it was my least favorite, I still enjoyed it. Before the movie, the gentleman speaking talked about how it's always compared to Gone With the Wind. How it had a smaller budget. I had heard a story once that in order to get cast as Scarlett O'Hara, Bette Davis made Jezebel. But, it was actually the other way around. After making the film, Bette Davis was the audience favorite to play Scarlett, but Selznick didn't want her. And though I love Bette Davis, I don't blame him, because I adore Vivien Leigh in the film.

This evening, the final movie, was one of my all-time favorite movies (number one actually being Gone With the Wind), What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?. It was so wonderful to get to see this movie on the big screen. And although nowadays, it's a bit "campy" and whatnot, it's such an interesting psychological suspense movie. And for its day, the twist at the end of the movie, can only be matched by The Sixth Sense or The Usual Suspects. Overall, it was so much fun to watch.

And as I posted before, at the end of March is The Princess Bride, which I will be making sure to remind everyone of closer and closer. Actually, I'm counting down. However, in April, some of you may also want to make the trip out for another BRILLIANT classic, All About Eve. It's only 6 bucks (okay, and the 3 dollar round trip for you PATH train people). Hope to see you all there.

EDIT: Forgot to mention one thing. After the movie last night, the four of us were discussing a remake (not the crappy one the Redgraves attempted), but a really well acted remake of Baby Jane. We ran the gamut of top actresses (Meryl Streep, Olympia Dukakis, Shirley MacLaine, Toni Collete (when she's older) among others). But, I finally came up with the perfect pairing which we were all agreed upon. Geena Davis as Blanche and Susan Sarandon as Baby Jane. I think they would be awesome. Let your imaginations flow and tell me who you'd cast.
