The Roots was everything I thought it'd be, except shorter. They did 80mins, which was quite shit. ?uestlove at Hacienda was inconsistent, but had his moments. He played a lot of mainstream early on, like RHCP backtoback with Jay-Z's 99 Problems, and I was telling Chad, "Hey, you know what's a suck-o-meter?"
"What?"
"When you see these fat and/or cosmetic yuppies start jivin' and singing along, that's the suck-o-meter." Heh. It got a lot better later on, with some dubstep and Brand Nubian's (!!!) Punks Jump Up To Get Beat Down! :)
They opened the set with some Game Theory stuff and then did a live mixtape full of classics like ODB's Shimmy :D Then a extended (like 20 mins extended version) of the collab with Erikah Badu - "Baby You Got Me". Baby you got me, straight up.

http://www.sonar.es/2008/eng/prog/concerts2.cfm Speaking with a friend of Chad's (Dalia?), and found out she was at SONAR 2005, and we were mutually gushing about Barcelona. Came back and checked out the lineup of this summer. Fuck. It's dope. Goldfrapp Justice Diplo FrankieKnuckles DJ Medhi A-trak and Spank Rock. Hot damn!!! Wish I could go again! :(

Midway through ?uestlove's set, I had this idea for a gig night: Like ancient Greek temples, we can place 8 or more hiphop DJs in a square formation, elevated, with the crowd inside the square, and everyone plays one track then passes it on to the next. Can you imagine the energy!!! We can feed off each other, and it's fucking interactive or what!!!
Gonna pitch this to Chad, the transitions will be messy but it's gonna be incredible if we can find a venue and hook up with all the local DJs. Revolution here we come
