Summary: John gets up early on a special day just to make Mary smile... oh, and Dean wants chocolate.
Early morning, before he would usually be up, found him standing in the kitchen, cup of coffee in hand. Mary, glowing in a maternity dress, laughed at his grumbles, the kitchen window lighting her from behind.
Easter was special, she told him, Easter and Christmas were the only times she expected him to come with her, the only times religion ever really came into his life. He had seen too much to really believe but she did, so, twice a year - to make her smile - he dressed himself up and joined her.
“You know we could have stayed in bed a little while longer,” he suggested, running a hand up her arm. She laughed and reached out to adjust his tie, batting his hand away.
“As inviting a prospect as that is, with you dressed like that…” Her hands smoothed down his shirt as she raised an eyebrow, leaning closer.
“CHOCOLATE! CHOC-LATE! CHOC-O-LATE!!” Footsteps thundered closer and a blonde cannonball ran into them.
John reached down to scoop him up.
“Hey squirt.” Dean wriggled in his arms, reaching around to wrap his arms around his father’s neck. “Church first, then chocolate.” Dean pouted eloquently. “Mommy says we have to wait before we have our treats.” Mary shoved his shoulder playfully.
“Come on you two,” she said, beginning to move. “In the car.”
“Then chocolate?” asked her son, persistent as always.
“Maybe - if you’re good.”
