[Kamina hesitates a moment, glancing into the water and then at Gene. Nevermind names at the moment; because while it seemed that Arceus had the good nature to somehow make a guy like him literate before dropping him here, the deity-Pokemon didn't see fit to teach him to swim.
And so far, Kamina's experiences with deep waters generally left him flailing to stay afloat or sinking like a rock. Thankfully, the fruit of his training in the woods prior to all of this rain ended up giving him a solution.
He offers his new traveling compatriot a smirk.]
You're gonna need to keep up with me.
[He puts his fingers in his mouth and gives a loud whistle. There's a stirring beneath the surface of the water. A row of deep emerald fins crests the flood waters before vanishing below once more.]
Aqua Man! Let's rock~!
[In response to the shout, within a hop's distance of the branch, the surface explodes as a Gyarados emerges from the resulting waterspout with a roar.
Gurren clings to his trainer for dear life as the young man vaults off the branch, doing a rather over-dramatic flip through the air as he lands on the atrocious Pokemon's back.
And then just to give a moment's anti-climax to all of this, he scratches the side of his neck a little.]
[He gestures to Aqua Man to follow the freaked out Gene and while the Pokemon seems a little put off to follow the command, it seems at least generally obedient to its trainer and makes good speed after him.]
Oi! It's just Aqua Man! I told ya about him before!

[There's a huge number of reasons why Kamina's not freaked out by the massive sea serpent he's riding in the least. First off was the rather convoluted story situation that it evolved under. Secondly... well, when you've stared down a three or four-story giant robot with just the nodachi in your hand and the hot-blood in your veins, there's really not much that does faze you.
In either case, he bellows a laugh as he gives Aqua Man a gesture to slow down near the terrified swimmer.]
HAHAHAHA!
Relax! Aqua Man ain't gonna fight anyone I don't tell him to!
[He pauses for a moment before just pointing the Gyarados toward the next town.]
We'll head this way! I'll guess that wherever this town yer girl's in is past Violet!
[Normally, Kamina was the kind of guy that would stubbornly do whatever he was planning to do no matter what anyone else said. But the last time he actually took a moment to listen to someone else, Simon had managed to rather ingeniously sink the Dai Gunzen into an enormous pit and bought the Dai Gurren Dan the time needed to plan an assault.
So figuring that doing that sort of thing actually had some merit, he gestured for Aqua Man to stop.]
Well how else are we gonna get to wherever the hell yer girl is?!
All these routes lead to all the towns, so if we just follow 'em, we'll reach the right one!
If you're riding on a monster than can swim, let's just make a bee line to her off the Cherrygrove City shoreline!
[Gene was calling up not out of anger, but because Kamina would have trouble hearing over a Gyarados' breathing. Then again, Gene had called down, seeing the creature wasn't threatening, and smiled, knowing this would be a faster ticket to Meflina.]
