At around 7 on Sat I set off with two friends to Bristol for ripsnorter vs breaksnorter free party.
After a 3 hour drive we all arrived at the venue, a very small but really interesting club called The Blue Mountain. The venue was almost packed when we arrived but we had plenty of time to get into the party mood before Greg had to play his first set at 1.15am. I didn't really take much notice of the line up, the main room seemed to be mainly breaks but upstairs had a smaller room but amazing visuals projected onto every available surface! The upstairs room felt more like ripsnorter music wise so I stayed up there for most of the time, venturing out onto the balcony to chat to randoms, be a camera whore and smoke!
Greg was playing in the main room, it was almost packed out but someone had the cunning idea of getting me to dance on the stage in front of the rig....I'm not sure whether it was a good idea or not but I got a real buzz from it and I received some lovely compliments from some randoms so I was very happy, it boosted my ego no end!
After Greg's set I spent the remaining few hours outside on the balcony, struggling against the throng of people, before he played in the upstairs as his alter ego, Arthur Tabb.
I was in the mood for musical randomness and some serious cheese, I got it!
There were a few moments of mental stupidity...I'm putting that down to having had some beer and being in a club where I didn't know many people...sometimes I get edgy for no reason at all...very public paranoia is always made worse when the people you are around are strangers...everyone who knows me well has seen me flip out before and knows how to deal with me...I'd hate to be in a situation where I couldn't cope and there was no one around to say "pull yourself together Liz, you're blowing this all out of proportion."
When Greg had finished his set and everyone had said their goodbyes it was time to drive to Woodhenge, a fascinating site that pre-dates Stonehenge, there had been some amazing finds on the dig, housing, burials, the indication that massive amounts of people had lived and worked on this area of land for some time, the logistics of feeding and housing so many people indicates people far more advanced than anyone gives them due credit for!
After Woodhenge it was time to have a quick look at Stonehenge (from outside the fence).... It is a beautiful site and I don't begrudge them needing the funding to preserve it but I'm afraid I was just too poor to pay that day!
Some impressive navigation got us to Pewsey to see the White Horse, in chalk on the side of the hill that was our last trip of the day and it was time to set education and culture aside, get back into the car and get back onto the motorway!
What a weekend, I love random adventures!
In other news, my new room is now completely unpacked and tidy so anyone who wants to come and visit is more than welcome.
