So the first of our two plays opened on Friday, the Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged). House was light but energetic on Friday, larger but a bit more confused I think on Saturday. The Friday crowd understood a lot of what was going on and were very generous with their laughter... whereas Saturday was a much older audience and I think some of our "abridgement" went over their heads on occasion. But in any event it's still funny as ever and I expect the full run of it to be ultimately successful.
Of course, what would ordinarily be a day of relaxation the morning after on Sunday... for this show doesn't exist. Because since we're doing two shows in repertory, we had our tech rehearsal for Greater Tuna all day instead. It was long and exhausting because the show is much more tech heavy and so there were dozens of more cues for lights and sound than there was was Shakespeare. Shakespeare is much more active from an actor standpoint... we run around so much that I start sweating almost from the beginning... but the costume, lights, and sound changes are much less frequent and speedy. So tech-wise our Sunday tech rehearsal for Tuna took much longer. Our run though actually didn't run too badly, especially for a show we hadn't touched in like two weeks (as we were finishing getting Shakespeare up). I think with our three final dress rehearsals over the next three days, we should be good to go. Of course, the close of Tuna opening weekend on Saturday we'll all be completely knackered. That Sunday will truly be a day of rest.
All in all, if you have the time/inclination... come out to Acme in Maynard and see either/both. They are both very funny and a lot of fun. I'm proud of the work we did on both of them.
