Things I didn't say in a recent discussion on Pro-Life vs. Pro-Choice

Todd, less then half of abortion victims are women. More males are conceived AND born because males have higher mortality rates, so in order to keep the population at equilibrium, somehow biology has determined that there be more males conceived.

Also, the statement you quoted above "the child who must struggle for health in competition with other members of a closely packed family has still great difficulties to meet after its poor constitution and malnutrition have been accounted for ..." I perceive her to say that a child/children from large families suffer emotionally and psychologically, possibly from neglect--historically (and even seen today) being raised by older siblings, and often older children use up ALL the families resources, leaving nothing for the younger children ... hence why it is "merciful" to "kill them" before these consequences affect them emotionally/psychologically.

... Mercy killings where appropriate as abortion are concerned: dumpster babies, crack babies, any baby born to the cast of 16 and Pregnant (and other related .... peer groups). There is a whole branch of psychology devoted to children and their needs, I believe that Sanger was alluding to THIS and not some interesting imagery of cannibalism (I'm a writer, I can't help it, even it wasn't what you meant at all!). Brilliant people are often extraordinarily misunderstood and apparently, as in this example, completely lack tact.

People are very worried about aborting a living, breathing being and calling this murder. But what happens to the child after it is born? What about dumpster babies? Abuse victims? Crack babies? Neglected children? People talk about those seeking abortions as irresponsible. What I want to know is ...

Where are you AFTER the baby is born? Where are you when it comes to TEACHING responsibility? Where were you in PREVENTING the pregnancy? Where are you in teaching parenting courses, or donating food/clothing to these kids? What are you doing to help women and their children after birth? Your VOTE doesn't change/influence these lives in a POSITIVE manner.

I BESEECH you to volunteer in a women's shelter, or in a women's clinic, or even do Big Brothers and Big Sisters and put your time into these people before imposing your belief system on them politically. My life and my body should not be subject to your vote if it is not worth your time and your compassion.

And yes, adoption is an option ... but this is a broken system. Instead of debating abortion, why not try to fix the system?

Lastly: How is demonizing abortion, Planned Parenthood, and the women who take this path helping to bring people to Christ? The women I know who have had abortions are outcasts and RESENT Christians, resent our Faith, and resent our GOD. What message are we sending here?

I am a Pro-Choice Christian and yes, I talk to women EVERY DAY who have had abortions or have been in the position where they have entertained the notion and you have no idea about the heartbreak in these women's lives. It is so hard to try to discuss faith with them because some Pro-Lifer has slammed that door in their face.

I don't know any of you personally, so I'm not accusing you of doing the same, but I hope that if you are Pro-Life, you leave room in God's house for these women because THAT is what Jesus would do. Jesus was a TEACHER. Not a Judge. GOD is the only Judge here.

And why on earth, if you are Pro-Life, would you be against birth control? It's preventing the pregnancy in the first place. Let's be honest, in our country, there are many lifestyles, and a "proper Christian" lifestyle is not only difficult to define in terms of sexuality but pretty much unpalatable because some old, dead guys had absolutely no training in psychology or medicine. Do you not understand how it works? The most popular forms of birth control prevent semen from ever meeting an egg. So a birth control pill is NOT a monthly abortion pill (none of you have said this, but I've heard people say it before so I figured I should inform). Not to mention the health benefits here: reduction in acne and abnormal facial hair, preventing severe migraine headaches and other symptoms of PMDD, preventing amenorrhea, treating endometriosis, and treating PCOS. So please, tell me why it is such a HORRIBLE thing to allow women access to birth control???
