Practical Magic by
Alice Hoffman My review
rating: 4 of 5 stars
There are some books that you read and say "Oh My! This was so much better than the movie." This was not one of them. That does not, however mean that I do not like this book as much as the movie. They, to me, are not in the same category. In the movie the magic is not so much practical as it is there to be shown. Where as in the book it is all around them. In the way this move or the face that they are sent something or other. It is all there for them to see if they let themselves. Also the tone and voice of the movie and book are different. The book follows everyone in the 'God' view, meaning that we know what they are thinking any time we see them. Or virtually so. It takes a little effort at times to remember whose point of view you are in. Thought 99% of the time the author keeps this particularly clear. In the end I liked the book very much. But would advise against comparing it to the movie or taking the one as the other.
