I remembered the other day that, back when my dream job was to be a newspaper columnist, I wrote an essay entitled "My Perfect Guy." (not a very creative title, really, but it got the point across.) I thought it would be pretty funny to read it and compare my ideology of relationships then (probably my senior year of high school or so) to what it is now. well, I was right. the only thing that I found that was really relevant within it, and is a belief that I still hold to, was this:

"My perfect guy does not have to be a genius, because I am certainly not that. However, he should have a very good amount of common sense, an awareness of current events, and a general knowledge of what is going on around him. I definitely will count a guy out right away if he: 1) is a super senior, or has dropped out of high school; 2) calls me “Elsie,” or something to that effect, instead of Elise (if reading my name off a piece of paper); 3) can’t get the humor on Saturday Night Live; and 4) has the attention span of a 4-week-old puppy. Now I’m not saying I am the smartest person alive, but I took some advanced classes in high school, I got a 25 on my ACT, I can read and I DO get the humor on SNL. Any guy who says something that causes me to look at one of my friends and laugh (in disbelief) is definitely out. The funniest thing about these types of people is that usually they think they are smarter than everyone else."

man, things sure have changed. or maybe I have changed; that could be it. all I know is that I used to have this laundry list of things that my perfect guy would HAVE to be or HAVE to do.

now I don't dream of having a perfect guy. I don't really think it's possible. I do have ideas of certain endearing qualities that I would enjoy having in a guy, but they really all come second to the top must-have on my list:

#1: have a guy who is either in a relationship with Jesus Christ or is at a point of decision to become a Christian, who I can love, respect and trust because of it.

everything else comes second because nothing else matters.

oh life. you never fail to amuse me. let's see where I'm at in a few more years and see if I laugh it up at something within THIS entry.
