Currently taking a course in anatomy & physiology, which is one of the coolest courses I've ever taken and which I'm both enjoying immensely and excelling at, today we were discussing osseous tissue. In the course of said discussion, we learned about osteoclasts, which munch on calcium salts in bone to regulate Ca++ levels in the blood. In homeostasis this works just fine, but when the system gets out of whack it can lead to loss of bone mass. I've been mastering this course through the liberal use of mnemonic devices, and when the professor shows us an idealized diagram of osteoclasts, to me it resembles nothing so much as a
Metroid from the Nintendo game of the same name. So the whole time I'm thinking:
You know, Ice Beam and five missiles will fix that problem right up.
