"I can't decide if I should be mad at you or not." McGee was the only person in the bullpen when Kelly walked up and sat on the corner of his desk, doing her best to distract him from the report he was typing. She had shown up hoping to surprise her dad, only to find that he was up inMTAC with the director. Poking McGee was more fun than sitting quietly at her dad's desk and waiting for him to return.

"Look Kelly, what ever Tony's been telling you..."

"Oh, this has nothing to do with Tony." She reached into her knapsack and pulled out a book, setting it on the desk. Deep Six. McGee groaned.

"You can't be mad at me like Ziva and Tony are. You're not even in there." McGee avoided looking at the book. He looked more than a little uncomfortable, and Kelly wondered if it was because she was Gibbs daughter or because she was one of the few people other than the team that knew the book was based on real life.

"Not true. I'm there." She picked up the book again, thumbing through the pages until she reached the spot she was looking for. She'd read the book twice since Abby had told her about it.

"A child was missing, a woman dead. It was on cases like this that the team was reminded of the dark tragedy in Tibbs' past, his growling instance that no one slept until the child was found a sad echo of his wife and daughter's murders." Kelly snapped the book shut. "You killed me off, McGee."

"I didn't kill you off. I killed Tibbs' fictional daughter who doesn't even have a name." McGee looked over his shoulder at the stairs. Making sure her dad wasn't coming, Kelly was sure. "It gives the character more dimension."

"I guess I should feel lucky. Considering what happened to Jimmy and your need to give Tibbs a dark past I could have ended up his prostitute daughter with a drug habit," she deadpanned. It was too bad no one else was around to see the look on McGee's face.

"I wouldn't... I mean I... Gibbs would..."

"Kill you? Hang you from the nearest yard arm? Make you spend a week doing surveillance with Tony?" Kelly suggested. She knew it wasn't true, that if anything her dad had been amused by his agent's literary career, but she wasn't going to let McGee in on the truth. She'd spoil her dad's fun.

"I should have sworn my sister to secrecy about the book," McGee groaned.

"It would have only prolonged the inevitable. A national best seller about an NCIS team? Someone we know would have read it eventually- probably Uncle Ducky- and from there it would have taken about five minutes to figure it out."

"Oh great."

"Does that pained expression on your face mean there's not going to be a second LJ Tibbs novel?"

"The only writing I'm doing in the near future is this report." McGee nodded at his computer screen.

"So I have no hope of being miraculously resurrected in the next book? Tibbs could find out that his wife and daughter have really been in protective custody all this time and..."

"No offence, Kelly, but no one is going to believe that."

"Okay, but if you steal my idea I get royalties, okay?" Her dad was coming down the stairs now, and she smiled up at him and grabbed her bag. Lunch time. "And McGee?"

"Yeah?" he said warily.

"Before you get caught up in your report autograph my book. Please."
