car // the empyrean (song to the siren)

I picked up my car from Simmons Rockwell today. They put a brand new transmission in it at absolutly no cost to me. I am blessed that it decided to shit the proverbial bed at 72,000 miles, befor the powertrain warranty expired. If I had had to pick up the tab, it would have cost me $5,500. Yes, that's right. I don't have $5,500. So I lucked out.
Now I just have to convince them to give me the approx. $600 back that I spent on repairs that ended up being taken care of by doing what they should have done for free in the first place. Wish me luck.

John Frusciante's new solo album The Empyrean will be released on the 27th of January. I am about to hit 'burn' on my pirate-downloaded copy and listen to it for the first time on my way to work. And please, spare me the lecture on 'stealing music'. CD whore that I am, I ALWAYS buy at least one copy of every album I download. I simply download them because I am too impatient to wait for their actual release.
All of the samples I have heard have led me to see what I knew in my heart the case would be: John has created another beauiful, spiritually heightened collection of songs that I will obsess over and decide are the soundtracks to my life. I would give my thumbs to have written music half as gorgeous as his.
And joy of joys, he does his own cover of Song to the Siren by Jeff Buckley. This is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. It was covered in 1984 by Cocteau Twins (best version ever) and now John is doing his own version. It is utterly gorgeous,

I know, I know, Gary. No one can touch Liz Frazier's version. I can read yr mind. ;). Bite me, John Frusciante is God.
