Feature request - ScrapBook functionality

Aug 03, 2009 09:33

Hey, I'm a frequent DS user, since the beginning. I love its cross-platform support, because I'm using it on 4 Linux boxen, and one WinXP VM. :-) I have a feature request, if it would be possible. I realize that DS is primarily a LiveJournal client. But would it be possible to integrate some FotoBilder/ScrapBook functionality in it ( Read more... )

I'd love to do it too, but the problem is that it's a tonne of work for something that only a small percentage of users will unfortunately use. Every ScrapBook client I've ever used has sucked, so it'd be good to try and do this "right" for a change... hmm... when I started typing this comment I was like "no way" but now I'm all "hmmmmmmmmmmmm..."

See, that's why I wanted to use it in a feature. Not make a client. It's hard to make a client, it's easy to just use it. Think the iPhone app LiveJournal.app. Any pics you attach, it transparently uploads to ScrapBook and links. It isn't a ScrapBook client.

I only mentioned the client as an afterthought. Not the primary thought. :-)

Well after writing all the uploader/editor code stuff (ie. the brain-breaking part), it wouldn't be that hard to tack on a UI afterwards.

This has really got me thinking. The only semi-decent FotoBilder client I've used was Jix, and that still sucked horribly. Could have what you described above, but also a full-blown client built into DS. I'd love to be able to just drag and drop groups of photos into a gallery.

While idly googling to see if anyone had ever written anything about my FotoBilder client, I found only one comment. Not sure if I should be pleased or saddened. 8~)

Well I did say it was semi-decent. :P

It's still the client I use when uploading batches of pics to Scrapbook... it's just I can't seem to create new galleries and rearrange them without bugging out the client, and I can't select multiple images by holding down Shift or Control. It's not bad, it just sucks for the way my batch-uploading workflow goes (I like that you can copy a list of URLs after it's done uploading everything though).

Ultimately I wish someone would do a decent Picasa plugin for LJ. I'm iffy about writing for FotoBilder because I'm terrible at dealing with binary data plus I never have time anymore (the majority of DS was done when I was either unemployed or underemployed).

Fair point. I never do that but I can see why you would want to. I may fix that...

> copy a list of URLs
I thought no one used that! Better keep it in.

Thanks for the feedback. It's very odd writing something like this and never getting any.
