I'm out next to Scottsdale, Arizona at the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community coding automated documents and reports and the weirdest thing just happened. Here's a play-by-play.
I'm completely baffled because someone is CONTROLLING MY LAPTOP! The mouse is moving around, opening the start menu, clicking on tabs in JustWare (my company's flagship software)
At first I'm just confused, then I'm becoming more and more impressed that someone was able to install a remote-control daemon that I wasn't aware of.
I open a notepad and type the following:
what the heck?
Who is this?
Seriously ... who is this??
I'm really impressed by the way... I didn't know I had a server daemon running. What application are you using to access my system?
I really don't care that you have access either... I am really curious as to what I am running that gives you access?
Are you even looking at this?
All while I'm typing, the person is completely ignoring my typing and is trying to access the windows behind the notepad.
Then it stops for a while. I'm looking through my processes tab in Windows Task Manager and thinking "There is nothing in here that would allow this kind of control!"
Then the mouse starts moving again...
..and it hits me... I'm using a wireless mouse. So I take out the USB receiver dongle and the mouse stops moving. I plug it back in, and it starts moving again.
I get up and look around. I find a guy behind me with a wireless mouse. I explain what's going on and he has no clue. He doesn't have a Logitech mouse, so I move on. Wired, Wired...
Then I realize... it's got to be much closer to work this well. So I go around the cube and in the cubicle directly on the other side of me, I find a similarly confused and concerned lead programmer.
He had just rebooted (explaining the interrupted activity) and was searching for something to scan for malware.
You would think that a completely different type of mouse (even if it's the same brand) would either be on a different frequency or have the option to change the frequency, but alas... No.
I quite enjoyed the experience. What can I say? I'm a geek.
"I guess I kinda lost control, because in the middle of the play I ran up and lit the evil puppet villain on fire. No, I didn't. Just kidding. I just said that to help illustrate one of the human emotions, which is freaking out. Another emotion is greed, as when you kill someone for money, or something like that. Another emotion is generosity, as when you pay someone double what he paid for his stupid puppet. " -Jack
