[Filtered away from: Howie, Steph, Una, Bruce, Dick, Martha. (basically, people Sveta told him might get Narvin in trouble.]Well. A while ago, my warden, Narvin, played you an interesting piece of history. Something he believed was the 'truth'. It was a lie. It was all fabricated. This, I've emphasised over and over again ( Read more... )

And why should we believe you? As far as I can see, it's just 'he said, it said'.

I have written conversations and a written agreement. Guaranteed to be Narvin and none other.

The Cube has no evidence to back it up bar itself.

Oh, I believe you about Narvin. You have no reason to lie about him, but you do have a reason to lie about the Cube.

Do you want to see the thousands of Dwarfish historical and theological texts to contradict the words of the Cube? I can provide them.

The Cube is nothing but lies. I have always and will always believe that.

I can find texts full of lies about me in the library. It's called propaganda. I'm not saying I believe the cube, but I don't disbelieve it, either.

The Cube is the propaganda.

Think about it - an indestructible recording of a wildly contradictory history, challenging long held beliefs about Koom Valley, and the nature of relationships between Dwarfs and Trolls appears just at the same time as the Low King is trying to push a very contraversial and almost heretical doctrine of negotiating with the Trolls. A recording which backs his point up almost entirely.

Do you not find that remotely suspicious? Those texts were all written independently, by different Dwarfish scholars, at different times, and most of them can be cross referenced against another.

It is suspicious, but why shouldn't he negotiate with Trolls?

Because Trolls have been intent on killing Dwarfs since the beginning of time. We cannot just forgive their crimes with the click of fingers. We cannot just ignore the way they were created - for ever shambling through history with no intent but that of violence. No enlightenment, no endarkenment, we cannot just ignore that and start talking to them.

It defies so much, takes the lives of so many dead Dwarfs in vain, to wipe the slate clean of their blood.

But what good does it do? And that's just religious nonsense. They deserve a chance, if they squander it, they squander it, and you can get back to killing each other soon enough.

They've had chance after chance and killed us for millenia. Ambushed us, brutalised us, gone to war with us over and over again. We have to defend ourselves, and making treaties with them does no good at all. It insults those who have died in the wars and it leaves us open to Trolls again.

It is folly. Dangerous, dangerous folly and to create a fake documentation to back that up is a grave, grave insult to what it means to be a Dwarf.

But if you don't try, how can you be certain that the reasons for their actions are so different from your own?

Reply

deepdowndark June 22 2011, 02:12:59 UTC
Because Dwarfs were created better than Trolls. Different and we can actually reason our actions. Trolls can't.

[and there. hit the bedrock racism.]

I've heard racist comments like that before. They're always wrong. If they can't reason, how can they declare war?

Reply

deepdowndark June 22 2011, 02:16:40 UTC
They don't declare war. They simply exist in a permanent state of wreaking destruction.

They were never supposed to be created.

vinkus_witch June 22 2011, 02:18:45 UTC
They exist. You can't argue that something that does exist shouldn't. And honestly, I don't see what you're so worried about. If they were truly savages the treaty attempts would fall through so fast there would hardly be any time to acknowledge that they were going to happen at all.

deepdowndark June 22 2011, 02:20:55 UTC
Because even attempting a treaty is an insult to our history. It's... ignoring so much, it's ignoring the way Tak created us, and then ignoring the weight of history, ignoring millions of Dwarfs who have died at Troll hands.
