I wonder. Has anyone thought of keeping written records to themselves, so during floods, the rest of us don't have to go around answering the same six thousand questions everyone has. Wouldn't it be easier if we all wrote a series of immutable facts about ourselves and this place, so that as much as, apparently, our reality is flexible, there is one which remains constant?

The written one. The one we set in stone. The indestructible one. [He sounds like he's glaring at someone there.]

[Private to Narvin]

Let me back in the library. Now. Let me go in, if nothing else.

[Private to Beatty]

I am watching you. I will not make a scene of it, because I am quite that serious, but let me put this very, very bluntly. If you desecrate a word, a single word, I will find a way to make your life here unbearable. Constantly.

You might get a week's break whilst I sit in zero, but that should give you time to recover from the death toll whilst I plan my next move.

This is not a joke. It is written.

[Private to Coyolxauhqui]

Rip his limbs apart if he tries anything. Then bring him to me so I can spit on him.

You know who I mean, and I trust you to keep the books safe. I am trusting you. I don't trust any of those wardens, but I trust you to do the right thing with them.

[Private to Sveta]

Do you have anything I can read?
