random thoughts from today...

1. Earl is going in for his spring make-over/tune-up tomorrow! He needs a new muffler and wheel bearings fixed somehow. And brakes will be checked to make sure I don't go careening down a mountain in August. And oil changed. And then I will properly inflate his tires myself cuz they're a little soft and I've been letting it go for too long like that. I can't wait till he's purring like a kitten again! I'm hoping the price tag is at or under $500 for all of this. *sigh* the things we do for our cars.

2. Did you know that the first tuesday of every month at Safeway you get either 10% off or 10x the air miles??? Air miles all the way baby! I'm TOTALLY getting a free flight back from Van. Also while at safeway I got ingredients for shrimp stir-fry with cous cous AND garlic asiago ravioli with 3-cheese olivieri sauce. Then got home and realized I wasn't hungry for dinner. grr.

3. I have to mail in my form turning DOWN a $15 000 scholarship tomorrow. What a shame. And yet good in several ways, cuz it means I got the other stuff that i wanted instead!

4. Paul is going to London next week. I wanna go!!! I'm glad he's going to see it - he's never really travelled anywhere. I've kind of defined what it is about him that makes me unsure sometimes. I LIKE that he wants to have class and for things to always be perfect and that he's kind of a perfect cross between being such a GUY and being a little refined. But he's so afraid of things NOT being perfect, or having a bad experience that he'll never try anything different or risky. We went hiking last weekend and a piece of the trail broke away into a swamp and his foot got wet, and his immediate reaction was "let's just go back, I don't feel like hiking anymore". Really? I LIKE getting dirty on hikes. Sometimes I like crawling through the dirt in the woods and in streams like when I'm doing my field work. And smelling the earth under my fingernails and getting wet and messy. I like when things are messy sometimes. I like picking up and moving to a whole new city with no idea what will happen, because anything CAN happen. I like having good stories, even if they come from things going wrong (which they usually do, espeically in travelling stories!) He doesn't seem to feel any of those things - because they're messy, unpredictable and un-perfect. He's going to Cambridge, England - the most beautiful OLD town full of stories and character...and he's staying at a holiday inn because he "knows what to expect". He won't stay at a little inn or b&b because there's a chance it'll be sketchy.
Ok, so this is a much longer thought. But things about Paul usually are.
*sigh* the things we do for our men.

5. I also got popsicles at safeway! now summer can come. (p.s... there are flurries and a high of 3 degrees forcasted here for Friday. grrr)
