Radiohead's music long held a special place in my life. Not in the sense of "Thom really understands me, man!" or "You just don't understand how deep it is!" or anything silly like that. It's just been an odd coincidence that followed me up until the last couple of years, where Radiohead's current album reflected my state of mind at the time ( Read more... )

They're definitely one of those bands that I forget about for long periods of time. Before In Rainbows came out, I don't think I'd listened to their music for a couple of years.

I knew a kid a long time ago who once told me that he didn't like music. As I remember, shortly after that we stopped being friends.

If you had to pick one Radiohead album to recommend to someone who had never really listened to them, which would it be?

As someone who has something positive to say about almost every form of music I've listened to (with the exception of the more abrasive forms of metal and aggro electronica), I can't wrap my head around "not liking music."

It's hard to recommend a specific Radiohead album without knowing what the listener likes.

OK Computer is their best straightforward rock album, one of the best rock albums of the '90s, with nice prog/art rock influences.

Kid A is their best all-around album, solid from start to finish, but you have to like gloomy and slow experimental pop.

In Rainbows is my personal favorite, a great album if you like electronic indie pop.

Amnesiac, The Bends, and Hail to the Thief are all uneven albums. They each have some great highlights but are marred with some dull tracks. I wouldn't recommend anyone start with those.
