Title: Forecast
Fandom: Whatever you want (No, I'm serious. Total vagueness for a reason.)
Author: deep_salt_water
Pairing/Character: Vagueness to the max, so imagine whoever you want.

Hell, it could even be an original pairing, in which case.... still mine!

Spoilers/Warnings: NONE.
A/N: So much damn love and thanks to prancestagfully for the last para, and for being my secret keeper as to who I know the couple to be.

She sits on the edge of their bed, staring out at the rain pouring down outside. Everything is a shade a grayer, and looks like it’s been created with watercolours. Somehow it fits, though. It fits the way the day started, although maybe the previous day never really ended.

Wasn’t like either of them had slept.

He’s over by the closet, back against the wall as he sits on the floor. They stopped talking somewhere around five, but they stayed in their respectful places, unsure of what to do next.

They’re just lost in their own thoughts, trying to work out if what they have is salvageable, or if this is it.

The End.

He sighs, head falling back against the wall as he closes his eyes. She turns her head slightly, gaze shifting from the window to regard him out of the corner of her eye. She figures it can’t be over for her if she still feels something when she looks at him, but all she feels now is the fatigue. She stifles a yawn, finally moving from her position as she stretches herself out on the bed and rolls onto her side.

He takes her moving as a signal that he himself can move, watching her before he crosses the room to join her on the bed. He feels his own fatigue threatening to break him, lying behind her as he slips an arm across her body to hold her close.

She murmurs something that he barely catches, the words causing a small smile to appear. He presses a kiss to the top of her head, nuzzling into her hair as they both close their eyes.

The weather report had said there had been too much rain; too much rain for too long, and now the winds would pull the rotted roots out of the unstable ground. Eyes closed, she looks at everything around her swaying in the winds and threatening to crash down, and she thinks she knows what rotted roots feel like.
