He knew everything there was to know about her because he paid attention to the details.
He knew which shampoo she used, and which ice cream flavour made her eyes roll into the back of her head with pleasure when she took the first bite.
He knew which songs she listened to when she was sad, and which ones she listened to when she was angry. He knew which songs made her smile because she liked them and which songs made her leave the room, or pull that adorable ‘you’ve got to be kidding me’ face. And he knew exactly which songs got her hips moving in a way that made him forget how to breathe.
He knew all her hiding places. There was no place she could go in the mansion where he couldn’t find her. And he knew that she never minded his intrusion despite her many vocal protests to the contrary because it was her body language that counted.
He knew that when he leaned over to borrow a pen, she always sucked in her breath as his hand grazed hers even though she wore gloves.
He knew that when he whispered something in her ear during class, and her cheeks turned a little pink at the feel of his breath on her ear, that she’d always try to cover it up by rolling her eyes at him and muttering, “Oh John.”
He knew that when he sat next to her in the library close enough for their legs to touch, her heartbeat always got a little faster and her pupils dilated.
He knew that Bobby Drake never made her blush or feel flustered, but he also knew which of her smiles were just for Bobby and no one else.
He knew that she was beginning to realise the power that she held over him when she looked at him a certain way with those beautiful brown eyes of hers.
So when Rogue came into the bedroom he shared with Bobby when the Iceman wasn’t there, with a smile that was just for him-John Allerdyce, he knew that this was his chance to make her his; and that he would succeed.
