An evening in Yokohama

Today is a national holiday (shinbun no hi) in Japan to celebrate the spring equinox.  It would have been great if we could have actually had the day off but as things turned out, me and another team member had to work.   Thankfully, we managed to get done with work by 6 p.m. (unlike other days when it takes until midnight) and so I decided to immediately dash out and explore what I could given the few hours left in the day.  I am in Shin-Yokohama which literally means New Yokohama.  The closest place from here is the city of Yokohama.  It is the second most populous city in Japan and over 3 million people live in the city.  It is a coastal city and has held an important place in the history of Japan as it was a major trade center.

After a hasty research of how to get to Yokohama harbor from Shin-Yokohama and what to see there, I headed out to the subway station.  I got off at Sakuragicho station and walked around the Minato Mirai area.  It felt good to stroll around and get some fresh air and try and be part of the local crowd.
