Tonight was pretty horrid. I didn't really talk to anyone... I tried, but it just didn't work. I didn't feel like sleeping. I didn't feel like playing games. My only real attempt to do anything was to talk to Deanna... that's how desperate I was. I was willing to get myself back into that horrible, horrible mess if only I would have someone to talk to. Someone to comfort me.
She didn't help.
I guess I'll just go to sleep now.
Though, somehow or another, tonight I wound up reducing every one of Murakami's plot to this: Protagonist finds his life awry, missing something. Protagonist goes in search of this missing piece. Protagonist finds the missing piece in the obvious place - and the missing piece is always love.
I know it works for Dance Dance Dance, where he looks for the Dolphin Hotel. He doesn't really find exactly what he's looking for - but his life falls into place when he meets the receptionist.
In Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World, the protagonist finds himself split into two pieces. He tries to put his life back together and escape the Town - but he just can't do it. His life is set right by falling in love with the librarian.
In Sputnik Sweetheart, K searches for Sumire. When he finds her, he realizes his love. And everything magically falls into place.
I wish I could live like that...
