Engaged!
So last Friday I flew to NP, Gareth picked me up and told me that his brother (who he lives with) had gone out hunting and that his sister-in-law and the kids were at her Mum's place so we could make some dinner and relax at home. Brought dinner ingredients and as we entered the carpark he got a 'call' from his brother saying he'd broken down and needed a jumpstart. So we started driving out of NP, we drove for about 40 mins and I asked whether there was a road we were looking out for, and he said, "oh, it's something starting with a 'K'" - at this stage I offered to call his brother to confirm location, Gareth shrugged it off, saw a 'K' street and turned. Drove for ages, giving way to cows along the way. He still seemed unsure as to where we were going but as I pulled my phone out to call his brother we lost cellphone reception and turned onto a gravel road, quite a windy gravel road, and I was getting a bit stressed, but he was acting stressed too, so I tried not to make it worse for him (we were giving way to goats by this stage) - we had amazing views of natural forest on one side, and farmland on the other (I kept asking (jokingly) if he was taking me out there to kill me), and as we came up over a hill the road ended and there was a sign that said "Caniwi Lodge"! He was greeted by name and told to proceed to our chalet! I was staring at the lady completely gobsmacked.
Drove up to this beautiful chalet, with views of farmland, bush, lake, goats, etc. It was a truly stunning chalet, spacious, well decorated, 2 bedrooms, nice bathroom, full kitchen (ok, no oven), sound system, tv, FIREPLACE! Such friendly hosts too, a spa pool, free kayak hire, extensive dvd collection, fresh toasted croissants for breakfast, etc, etc.
Anyway, we went for this long walk, got back to the chalet and we prepared some dinner together and he laid the table with some tealight candles and a nice bottle of red wine. Just before we started eating, he started making a toast and then he came around and proposed, on bended knee, with a beautiful ring!
I also got my (working holiday) visa to the UK approved, so have booked my ticket for Oct 27th!
