SIGNS OF LIFE by Selene Castrovilla
A year after the events in MELT, Dorothy's life is in danger while Joey tries to better his own after separating himself from his monster father, but he cannot forget what he felt for her and races to her side before it's too late. With a now and then format and multiple first-person points of view in verse and prose, this novel moves quickly and gets to the heart of the story in few words. Part one is a little more vague in the set-up, but the urgency escalates in parts two and three. Readers need to orient themselves with book one in order to fully appreciate this second installment that leaves room for a third. Joey is the strongest character and shows the most growth.
