TERRIBLE TYPHOID MARY: A TRUE STORY OF THE DEADLIEST COOK IN AMERICA by Susan Campbell Bartoletti
In 1906, weeks after Mary Mallon is hired as a cook for a Long Island household, six of the residents fall sick with typhoid fever, and a sanitary engineer begins the process of tracking Mary down to prove she is a carrier of the illness against her will. In narrative format with photographs and source notes, the author tells a story of a strong Irish immigrant cook who never intended to hurt anyone, but didn't know the strength of own microbes. Her treatment was questionable until the end. (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, 2015)
