Sudden Illness (166)

THE FEVER by Megan Abbott
When high school girls begin convulsing, fainting, and hallucinating in their small town, Deenie realizes that she is a common thread between the sick and wonders if she is somehow responsible for the illness because she brought them to the polluted lake to swim. While slow in parts, this adult novel with teen appeal portrays friendships and child-parent relationships realistically. The ending is both satisfying and leaves questions. (Little, Brown, 2014)
