BBS's and phone calls.....
ok its almost 2.....
I don't have to get up early or anything tomorrow so it really doesn't matter. I hope it's nice tomorrow. I am playing a season on MVP Baseball for Xbox...yankees or course...i'm 4-1 so far...not bad.
I got a weird call today. This evening I got a call from none other then "Pyromancer". Well....let me explain.
During my younger years...like junior high and stuff...as in like...before the Internet really started (Netscape 1.0 here), there was something called BBS systems. Well, sadly, they are extinct now. Anyway...the Medford/Ashland area during this time had like 20 good BBS's you could call (2400 baud modem here). Basically, it was just a place to chat about things and sometimes play lame games like pimp wars and legend of the red dragon (they were cool at the time). Well, in the case of Pyromancer...he was one of my buddies back in the day. It was kinda cool because you would run into people that went to different schools so you could trash talk about sports (I played football in school)...and meet new people and stuff. Sometimes there were BBS meetings and we'd go out to pizza and stuff and meet the people behind the name.
Well, I had not talked or heard from Pyro in like 10 years and he just called today. He got my number from a friend of a friend of a friend basically :) He is living in California, married, and has 2 kids. Hahaha...crazy. He is working for some production studio down there making movie props! We exchanged email and will at least keep in touch.
In a way it's kinda sad....BBS's pretty much died in the early 90's and I kinda lost track of everyone. Lots of cool people. Granted, there were some strange cats...but all in all...good people. I remember being in 8th grade and saving 150 bucks to buy a 28.8 modem (when they first came out) so I could play games faster. I remember play DOOM (the 1st one) over the modem with buddies....into the late late hours of the night :)
Well, I'm sure nobody will relate to BBS's but it's kinda cool to hear from people that you haven't talked to in 10 years :) Had fun talking about the old days...hehe.
Anyway...enough of that.....another game of baseball and off to bed I go.
