QOW...OR...new poetry

Feb 23, 2009 17:45

Below is this week's Quote Of the Week.
Nice and prompt.

And way below is a new poem i just wrote today. I was in a mood and the necessity (and ability) to creatively vent suddenly overtook me.

Maybe you'll marry,
maybe you won't,

maybe you'll have children,

maybe you won't,

maybe you'll divorce at 40,

maybe you'll dance the funky chicken on your 75th wedding anniversary.

Whatever you do, don't congratulate yourself too much
 or berate yourself either.

Your choices are half chance,

so are everybody else's.

Attack

Crazed
eyes a blaze
a brilliant fire
such a rush
it's such a rush
like riding bareback
behind the smoke stack
of a steam engine
legs flying
and one hand holding
ever so tightly
without the will to let go
or stop
or slow down
It's loco
It's motive
It's the unmistakable sensation
of blood
in my arms
racing through blood vessels
like grehounds
on a curving track
chasing the ends of my fingertips
Just imagine
the adrenaline
pumping
rhythmically thumping
boom!
like a bass drum, boom! boom!
to the frantically beating snare
of a hearbeat out of control
ventricles flaring
arteries blaring
and the constant crashing cymbals
of lungs in distress
it's hyper
it's ventilation
all lanes open
all lights green
it's time to go
it's time to let go
it's time to release
and when it's gone
it's done
it's over
it's through
it's you
at the end of a very long race
looking back
and wondering
"how did i get here?"
