Recently home from a late-afternoon trip to the neighborhood pool! Our keycard finally came in the mail today, and we couldn't resist a post-nap swim. Of course, we are sorely behind in the dinner department, and bedtime approaches, so it's eggs and toast dinner in pajamas for the kids! (Grown-up dinner later will be more substantial...)
Here's hoping the swim will help the kids settle in for the night. They've been having trouble going to sleep since we moved. I think Sebastian is aware that he can get away with a little more when he's upstairs than he could when he was in the dorm. Also, he's getting up every night around 3. His activities at that hour vary from using the bathroom to pretending to be a ghost to turning on the light in his room and filling Clara's crib with toys. (Let me be clear that we intentionally do not keep toys in the kids' bedroom, but Sebastian is able to wreak havoc with a few stuffed animals.) That new adventure can be over whenever...
A/C is still out, and we're sitting pretty at 85 and stagnant upstairs. Windows are open for now, but we can't leave the kids' window open for the night. Our bedroom is the only one with a ceiling fan. We have a new a/c company lined up to come tomorrow morning, so here's hoping.
And this morning, Ash was trying to bake biscuits and found that our oven didn't preheat. It counted down like it was preheating, but it didn't. Stove is fine, though. Good thing we have a home warranty and a good toaster oven.
Sebastian's 'trial run' at the school went well. I'm glad we landed on a cooperative, engaged day instead of a sleep-deprived whiney one. He seemed to have a great time. I'm not sure what exactly would have to happen in order for this school to turn away a 3-year-old, but I think we're safe in any case.
Still no word on the job. I did hear the current bible and ethics teacher speak in chapel this morning. She is clearly not a chaplain, and I think I am at least more suited to fill that role than she. I think she has made the school skittish about making a decision because she is not at all what they want for the school; it's also the last week of classes, and it is entirely possible that they won't get to me until after the students have gone.
Ash is currently reading Sebastian an old 80s book-with-tape book of The Empire Strikes Back. I wish he still had the tape.
