NaNoWriMo word count day 5: 9327. Better quality today. I'm looking forward to getting into the heart of my story. I think it will help me find a more appropriate voice.

We enjoyed a little shopping trip in City Formerly Known As Home. Sheddington doesn't offer much in the way of useful shopping, least of all naturally colored and flavored generic brand gummy vitamins for Sebastian. We enjoyed very much the chance to break routine a little and get out of town. The current show has Ash tied to the theatre seven days a week. But he's happy with the progress on his set and is enjoying making it come together.

I am doing fairly well with keeping the TV off. I think NaNoWriMo is actually making it easier because my brain is already geared toward thinking creatively. Today, when Sebastian sat inside a box that raintea had delivered some hand-me-downs in, we decided it was his car and took a trip to the beach, where we swam (crawled around on the floor), napped, and built a sandcastle (pile of no-longer-used receiving blankets). I think last week I might have gotten as far as, "Is that your car?" and let it drop after that. I don't intend to ban it altogether, but it had become a part of every day, and that was never my plan for my young children.

Sebastian's birthday is in 17 days. We've decided to give him a little keyboard that was mine when I was a kid, a full-sized slinky for use on dorm stairs, and a coloring book or two. I'd like to get a few more things for him to play with at the table (montessori practical life kinds of things) so that we can have some focused activity not entirely reliant on manufactured toys. (Play doh and art are our standard table activities; they are fun, but a little more variety couldn't hurt.)

It is definitely bedtime, and I still have to run the diaper load. Meh.
