Here's what's been happening over the past few months:
1) Blair started school this year, and is awesome at it. She loves going and is genuinely excited to learn new things. It is unbelievably happiness inducing to watch her absorb new knowledge and apply it every day. She was always very quick to pick up new things, but now that she has people other than family pumping it directly into her brain, she's getting faster and faster at it. I'm trying to figure out just how fast she'll pass all of us on the curve.
2) Blair will have her very own gallery showing in a few days. Her art teacher thinks she is quite talented and has entered one of her paintings in a show at a local hospital. They do a show of kids art projects from all grades across the county every year and a few get picked to be put n exhibit in the lobby of the hospital in Concord. I've been told it's a "pretty big deal", and there will be a reception for all the kids and families next week. I'll bring the camera and try to get some shots to commemorate the occasion. Blair is taking it all in her normal way - happy about all the fuss, but she'd rather be playing on the swings, thanks.
3) Sister 1 of 2 is officially expecting. I say officially since she's several weeks along but didn't want to announce it until she was sure everything was good. It;s her first, so she's understandably cautious about pretty much everything so far. Doctors reports are all good, and everything seems to be set and ready for an April debut.
4) Blair read her first un-prompted words the other night. She has been learning all the letter sounds and what combinations make which sounds, and which combinations make some sounds different, etc. in school and she was looking at a piece of paper her mom was holding the other night. She looked at her mom and said "That words says pin!" Not realizing what just happened her mom said "Yep, it sure does." Then she noticed how excited Blair was and it dawned on her that Blair had just sounded out and read a completely new word from a piece of paper. We all got quite excited. Then Blair proceeded to sound out other words (the Ford logo on Dad's truck, the word "sport" on my tire, etc.) and we all got excited over and over :-)
5) Work is picking up. Finally. I just hope we can keep from derailing ourselves along the way and take advantage of some really good opportunities we currently have in front of us. After the past couple of years, it's kind of hard to be optimistic, but it is nice to have hope for a good year or two again.
updates,
