Time flies when you're old

Blair's first day of Kindergarten is tomorrow.

August 22, 2012, my little niece becomes an official "big kid". For real.

I think they have a special group of teachers on standby to peel crying moms away from the kids as needed.

Sister 2 of 2 went in Monday night with her to meet her teacher and to locate the all important cubby with her name on it. Remember back your first school days. The cubby was all-important. It was where your stuff was, where your papers went for parents night viewing, where awards and such were displayed. It was where your coat and gloves were safe and waited for you to finish your day and go back home.

Now Blair has one of her very own.

The school has already said that she did extremely well on her assessment tests, and that they will be keeping an eye on her to make sure she's not bored and that she gets all the education she can handle. They have very small class sizes, so she should get plenty of attention. She already knows one other girl from her pre-school that is going there, so she already has a friend and will be making tons more quickly.

She starts Spanish classes on Friday. She's not quite sure about Spanish and doesn't understand why people need to use other words than the ones she's gotten by with so far, but she's open to the idea, which is good. I have been thinking about what it would be like to start over now with the internet, Googles, tablets, e-readers and all the knowledge that we've amassed in the 37 years since I took that first walk to my cubby. Blair already knows how to find her favorite web pages on the computer and already handles my Mom's Nook tablet like a young IT pro, so the leaps and bounds she makes will be astounding I'm sure. Especially with a whole family just waiting to help her learn all that she can about everything that she can.

It's going to be an amazing journey and I can;t wait for science fairs, book reports, math classes and all the other things it will be nothing short of fantastic to watch her learn, absorb and put into practice. She's amazing already, I can't wait to see what she grows into.
