I wrote this last night, in the span of about ten minutes:

*

It seemed pretty awesome, Jim thinks sardonically, when they'd first given him his medal, when there had been an entire room of people applauding him, feeling acknowledged for the first time in his life--

Well, it'd seemed awesome then, and easy too, to accept his shiny new titled of Captain and take the ship that he already felt should rightfully belong to him (that's probably the pesky mind-meld memories talking, because Jim can't stop thinking about them, can't stop holding on to fuzzy images of some foreign person wearing his face, of his father's face).

It's not so awesome when, roughly three weeks into his first mission as Captain of the USS Enterprise, Jim watches one of his officers dying in his arms on some hostile planet.

"Scotty!" he bellows, again, too many times to count, his throat stinging with the force of it, "Beam us up! Do it now!"

*

and i've had something along the lines of, when jim is old enough to feel, acutely, the absence of his father; before ( ... )

!!!! Fic!!!

You should write about why Kirk decided to drive that car over a cliff. It's like the black hole thing and it annoys me, kind of, because they never mention/talk about it ever...or you could write about the black hole thing. But I don't think you're a nerd like that...

i've read several ones about that incident, mostly being that kirk is young and impulsive and is too smart for a bland place like nowhere, iowa. also because his stepfather is abusive and his mother is gone a lot.

So you should write something new and original that has nothing to do with any of that.

that's actually the canon though, i forget where the source is. i can't think of any other reason why would have stolen a car. i need some other ideas. i really like in love!kirk, all sappy and refusing to believe that he's become the sort of person who would be that sappy.

Is it really? The stepfather thing and everything? Did I completely miss that? Probably....oh well.

it's not really in the movie, but there was apparently a scene that was cut from the movie that showed more of kirk's childhood, specifically about his stepfather.
