Summary: But then he met Rian. And everything just seemed to fall into place.
Warnings: In the future, violence, gore, possible rape. Nothing in this part, though.
Author Notes: This is the first fic I've ever written that's going to be bordering into the horror genre. My friend gave me the idea, and my girlfriend helped me develop this. I know I don't hve a great track record with chaptered fics, but I can do this. I'm dedicated, and excited about this idea.
When Alex was a teenager, he never really thought that it was possible to have a perfect life. Rather, that he didnt actually deserve the life he'd always dreamed of. It didn't help his hopes when he realized he wanted that life to include another guy instead of a girl.
But then he met Rian. And everything just seemed to fall into place.
They met through friends, something Alex had tried before, but wasn't really partial to, because really, Jack had really weird friends. The first date was nice, and they clicked almost right away. They talked, they flirted, and it ended up moving on to a second date. Then a third, and a fourth, and after a while, they somehow ended up living together. And that was about when Alex realized everything would be perfect.
Rian had a job that had him moving around a lot, Alex wasn't totally sure what it was. But he didn't even care, because whatever it was, it let them live in a house bigger than any Alex had ever lived in, ever. They had food, they had a great house, and best of all, they had each other. Alex couldn't wish for anything more.
Now, like most other nights, Rian was out on business (or, whatever it was he did do when he went out), and Alex was left alone. Normally, he didn't really mind this. But it was storming out, and Alex didn't really like storms at all. He couldn't sleep. Instead of even trying, he let his mind wander, reviewing the past three years of his life with Rian. It surprised him how little he really did know about Rian, but one thing he did know for sure was that he could never love anyone more than he did his boyfriend.
Alex had nearly started drifting to sleep, when he heard the faint sound of the downstairs front door open and shut. Immediately, his heart picked up speed, and a grin tugged at his lips, hopping up out of bed, peeking out of the bedroom door. From there, if he stretched his neck a little, he could see over the banister, and to the foyer. He could see the general shape of Rian, and that got his hopes up. His mouth opened to call out to his lover, but all sound was choked off in his throat as a flash of lightning illuminated the house, for a moment. But it was a moment long enough to see something that had his body tensing, paralyzed in place.
Rian's shirt, arms, face, neck. Covered in blood.
There were streaks of cleaner skin under the dark red, where the rain had rolled over his skin. Panic rose in Alex's chest, and, oh god, what if Rian was hurt? What if he'd gotten into an accident?!
His eyes followed as Rian walked through the foyer, stripping off his shirt as he went, revealing an undamaged and unblemished chest. Rian stepped out of view, and the light from the downstairs bathroom clicked on, illuminating the hall. All at once, Alex regained feeling in his body, letting out a tiny noise and backing up, back to bed. He was dreaming. He had to be. This was all a dream.
His heart was still hammering in his chest fifteen minutes later when Rian came upstairs into the bedroom, smelling like a shower as he crawled into bed. Alex pretended to be asleep, keeping his eyes closed while his boyfriend wrapped his arms around the slightly smaller male, dropping a kiss to the top of his head, and settling in to sleep.
And all Alex could think was "What the hell is going on?!"
