Well, technically "meme" is supposed to be pronounced with a long e to correspond with the pronunciation of "gene." In other words, "meem."

Because a meme, by its original scientific definition, is a gene in idea form. Just as genetics are passed from human to human, a meme is passed along (but obviously more freely because biology isn't involved).
