while watching a news brief of Al Gore considering running for president again now that he won a Nobel Peace Prize, i just happened to ask my parents whom they would vote for if they had the choice out of Barrack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Mit Romney, Ron Paul, or Rudy Guliani.

they responded with, "well, it's gotta be either Clinton or Obama. we ain't votin' for no fucking Republican."

now, i want you to do something for me;
take the word "republican" out of that statement and replace it with any number of intolerant or politically incorrect adjectives.

do you see my problem with this?

well, apparently, questioning my parents blind belief in a political party (whether or not it be the one i align myself with) is the wrong thing to do.

as a buffer, i'd like to point out that by no means am i Republican (save my feelings about the death penalty).
I am appalled, not to mention terrified, by the way Right-Wing Extremist Republicans are turning America into a theocratic, corpo-fascist police state, and i'd gladly suck the shit out of a dead cat's ass to elect a Democratic president that would run on a platform of advancement and intelligence.
To me, there isn't a higher form of patriotism than defending America against the crushing grip of intolerant, puritanical, imperialistic, greed-mongering, Constitution-shredding, bible-fucking idealists.
but for Christ sakes, i'd like to believe that the people who raised ME to think for myself would, you know, think for themselves.

"really, Dad? no Guliani? no Ron Paul? What about you, Ma?"

"Egh, i hate Ron Paul."

"...twenty bucks says you cant name 3 of Ron Paul's policies."

"i dont need to, he's crazy."

"how do you figure?"

"he just is."

"ok then, twenty bucks says you cant name 3 of Obama's policies.
...or Clinton's policies, for that matter."

to which my dad replied, "Ian, i'm serious, if you vote republican, you'll find a new place to live."

my soul is aching, and in the rare occasion i get in these Brujah-esque moods, i cant help but feel like i should try to do something about it.
problem is, my parents being... well, my parents, you cant teach 'em nothin'.

fuckin' old people, man.

at any rate, you should check this guy out if you're interested in a good, old fashioned Liberal-Athiest approach to politics.

if HE ran for president, I'D vote for him.
which would be hard to do, seeing as i'm a felon and all.
