Not a bad thing

Well, I got woken up with the cheery news this morning. Corey Noel is finally dead. After all those years of cancer and sickness and a wide variety of other problems somehow didn't finish him, he committed suicide at age 17. I can't blame him. Not even a little. After everything he went through I don't even see why I was so surprised when Mom told me.

1. Drunken mother
2. Drunken, drugged and to my thinking if no one else's abusive father
3. Our lovely screwed up school that never made sense to me and made even less sense to him
4. Bone cancer followed by marathon surgery and chemo. He actually brought in pictures of them replacing his bone.
5. More bone cancer just as we all thought he was getting better because the universe just didn't get enough the first time around.
6. Being taken away from his home without notice when the state finally shaped up and realized there was something off about his dad. The result of this being he didn't get to say goodbye to any of his friends and none of us knew where he was.
7. Drunken, druggie father committing suicide.
8. A foster family who wouldn't let him contact any of his family members or his old friends on the basis that since they'd known his father they were bad.
9. Lung cancer, oh ye gods.
10. And from what I've heard a variety of mental problems including hearing voices coming from the wall. Can you blame him?

My first thought on hearing this was, if not quite relieved, understanding, 'At least it's over'. I was all right with it until I saw the two-headed dragon he gave me when we were kids sitting on my bookshelf.

Life continues to suck.
