No Regrets. [Pirates of the Caribbean]

Aug 03, 2006 13:43

This is a very silly little ficlet, inspired by [although not technically a response to] a challenge posted at gillette_fans. Implied past Norrington/Gillette, although the main characters here are Norrington and Jack Sparrow.

Fandom: Pirates of the Caribbean.
Pairing: (past) Norrington/Gillette.

It’s a high-pitched whistling noise, something like the way one would call to a well-trained dog, accompanied by a swishing of the pirate’s fingers - and it kills James Norrington that he’s the one who’s learned to respond to it. The world has shifted and he’s now at the pirate captain’s beck and call and there’s nothing to be done by it.

Captain Sparrow seems in good spirits today as he whistles and beckons to the former commodore. James easily leaves off the incessant swabbing of the Pearl’s deck to see whatever it is that the captain wants. He’s smiling as he says “Former commodore! Just who I was looking for. I was hoping you could settle something about which the crew and myself have been wondering for quite some time.”

Norrington nods, expressionless. “Sir?”

“You do recall having made the monumental decision of giving me and my crew a day’s head start out of Port Royal?” His eyes flash, and Norrington can’t help flinching. “The thing we’re wondering is how you chose to spend that night of leisure. What could possibly have been more important than doing your duty and hunting down the scourge of the seas, eh? Mister Gibbs figures you must have been drinking yourself into oblivion, but I always thought…” he trails off, leans in very close, still grinning wickedly. “I always figured you were being buggered senseless by that pretty lieutenant of yours.”

Norrington doesn’t have any response to that; he merely closes his eyes against the pirate’s unrelenting gaze and tries not to remember. He hears Sparrow laughing. “Aha. Carry on, then.” And he takes a step away, turns back, and asks, “I do wonder, though, was it worth it?”

It only takes a moment’s consideration. Norrington smiles, opens his eyes and murmurs “Absolutely.”
