For project 'Not-in-the-least-mental-at-all-even-though-it-might-be-a-little-eccentric-in-places-aww-who-am-I-trying-to-kid-it's-barking-that-was-formerly-called-p'nom'[1] I needed some numbers for crew. Being a terribly organised and together type of person I made some up on the spot and decided to use them rather than working out sensibly how function of thing and peoples within thing go together[2].
Today, I decided to get the ranking system clear in my head which means writing it all down and describing what people do and how many it takes to do it and who they do it for[2a]. By dint of this I ended up with a real figure for the crew. Turned out to be the one I'd thought of off the cuff[3].
I like to think when I go, 'oh, this'll do for now'. Then a small rj in a smart suit with a sensible haircut that lives in my subconscious gets very cross. Then he gets out his pen[4] and paper; his sole job being to take my random pronouncements and somehow, make them work. So that when I, eventually, sit down and do it properly I don't have to think too much. I don't really like thinking.
Or that the great, golden hand of synchronicity smiles down on me.
Or that it's karmic payback for the coffee table annoyance yesterday.
Boringly, it's probably because I'm using a 18C royal navy model and repeat readings of Patrick O'Brien has scoured the correct numbers into my head. So what appears random at first is anything but. Like a sleight of hand trick by my own mind.
However, I am sticking with the image of the tiny rj. Someone has to be doing some work around here.
Tiny rj. I salute you.
[1]Working title. Obviously.
[2]Yes, size is missing. For the time being size is measured in 'space units' that we as mere watchers of history-not-yet-passed are unable to understand. It's on the list, 'replace space-units with something that makes sense.' [edit] Ah, strawpig has introduced me to an esotoric concept called 'the metre' in the comments. I shall be using these though I will call them space-metres or some variant there-of. Obviously.
[2a] Which makes it sound like a Swingers party.
[3] Which was nice.
[4] Which he licks in an officious manner.[5]
[5] Thrice and once the hedge-pig whined.
