You know you have been in Asia too long when this happens:

I was reading about election polling in the States and read that white men have have  "not voted for a Democrat over a Republican since 1972, when pollsters began surveying people after they voted."  I thought to myself why is that?   Maybe if there was a white man I could ask about this"  ( Read more... )

[H]e was ahead of Mr. McCain among ... white Catholics, and is even competitive among white men

Interesting how "white Catholics" and "white men" are apparently not intersecting sub-sets of the American population. There goes the accuracy of the mental Venn Diagram I have ...

Also, does this mean that you don't view any of the (white) foreign teachers at your university as white? Is there another label you use which eliminates the distinction?

I view myself first as 외국인 and then American as a subset of that. But even in the States I never really thought of myself as "white male" because I never really thought of myself in racial terms (a luxury of being in the majority that I no longer enjoy) and even if I thinking of yourself as "white man" is like thinking of yourself as human. How often do you think of yourself as human?

If I was representative of "white men" the world would be a radically different place. So I am baffled too. My guess is that "we" hate people who are not like us or people who want to help poor people like us. I am not gay so thinking about "white men" (or men in general) and their motives is not something I do a lot (or at all, come to thing of it.)

Also I love your icon but considering that the topic of my post is white men not voting for a black man posting an icon about a monkey may be considered by some to be "racial." I realize that is totally not you intention but If you post political comments elsewhere be careful with it; I don't want you starting an inadvertent flame war.^^

I thought it was very funny but then I thought "oh wait..." I was worried that you would think I was accusing you of racism when I knew that was the farthest thing from your mind. Nevertheless, I thought you needed to be warned of the larger implications of that icon
