Wedding planning part III- the relatives strike back

Jul 09, 2006 18:19

Had another wedding planning session with my parents, SO, my aunt and my grandmother. It's so touching that they want to be involved and that they have so many ideas, but it's all getting to be a bit much. Almost everybody in my mother's side of the family plays some kind of instrument, and now it's like everyone of them wants to play/sing at the wedding. The problem is that the music they picked out doesn't really work with the theme, and since the party is only from 7 pm to about midnight(We have to leave Turku at 4 am the next day to catch the plane to London.) I don't think we can have that many people playing, and I really hate the Finnish pop music that they'd like to play.*chills* They also found this really horrible musical version of LOTR that's been done in Finnish at an open air theater, and it's horrible. The songs are just depressing, I can't think how they thought it would be suitable for a wedding. Only the Finnish can make something so great and exciting as LOTR sound totally depressing... Mom's calling the caterer tomorrow to make an appointment to finalize the menu plans. The music is pretty much taken care of, I bought the 3 movie soundtracks and dad got a CD of music inspired by the LOTR and some medieval music. I'm going to try to set up a date with my friends for making all the wedding favors, I printed out the patterns already and I'm going to make a template today. The flowers are still a big question mark. I'm seeing mom on Tuesday to try on the cape, it's not yet in the final fabric, but she's made a test version. .. My aunt also came up with the idea that the hostesses should read excerpts from the book, which means that first I have to figure out what they need to say and then re-read LOTR in Finnish and write the appropriate quotes into a computer file.(I don't even own it in Finnish, I have it on order from a bookstore for next week).

The program for the wedding, 1st draft

people arrive and get a glass of sparkling wine

The married couple(that's us!!) arrives

Toast to us, my dad's welcome speech
presenting the hostesses, dad asks everybody to be seated

My cousins play something on the cello(My aunt's going to dress them up in medieval outfits, being boys and in middle-school, they're probably going to hate it!!)

Dinner

My other cousin playing something on the flute

Speeches

Coffee and cake

Passing around a book where people can write advice for a happy marriage(I still have to make this...)

My godfather playing something on the guitar

A slide show that our parents have put together

A midnight snack for the people who stick around this long

Tossing the bouquet

We leave

SO is out of town and won't be coming back till next Friday. I miss him too much already, and I can't really sleep without him anymore... I already ate a pizza and half a pint of ice-cream, and I still feel miserable... This sucks.
