It was the last day of the year and Hannibal wasn't doing a damn thing. Abigail had tried to get him to come out with her earlier but he'd begged off and just said he wanted to spend the day at home, thinking. Thinking had turned into sleeping and moping and all the other activities he'd gotten used to doing for the last half a year. It was ( Read more... )

It was New Year. New Year.

Hannibal should not be that surprised to find his phone ringing at some point, even if it had been a little while.

Well, Hannibal was a little surprised just because he'd been expecting to spend the day on his own, doing nothing. He picked up the phone though and said, "Hello," pretty pleasantly, at least.

"You know what's really bad, sweetie?" Hello's were apparently not for Angela today. "That I have to call on New Years to check you're alive."

"We have got to work on our communication." It was said lightheartedly, but at the same time... They did really, really need to.

"You don't think you'd gotten an invite to a funeral if I wasn't?" Hannibal asked. It was morbid but it wasn't too serious either. He'd had a little to drink (not a huge amount) and had relaxed somewhat with Kate around and beating things into his head.

"I'd rather call, and hear your voice, rather than rely on just not getting a funeral invite," she told him. "Call me crazy."

"Well, you got me," Hannibal assured her with a small smile. "Kate's here, trying to make me have fun so I'm actually, I dunno, not moping around and feeling sorry for myself for once."

"I'd be disappointed if at least one of the women in your life wasn't forcing some excitement into your evening." If she hadn't been halfway across the world, she'd have probably tried to do it herself. "Say hi from me."

"What's she got planned for you?" They were in New York, for New Year's Eve, she had to assume they might do something.

"Not much," he answered, shrugging. "I told her I didn't wanna go out or anything like that. So, I think we'll just stay in and laze about. It's too crowded to go out in New York tonight."

"The crowds are part of the point, you know that right?" she teased, lightly. "The people, the atmosphere, the decent view of the fireworks you don't quite get from your couch?" Well, that was what New Year in a big city meant to her.

Hannibal shook his head even if she couldn't see it. "Still not big into crowds. I'll hang out here with Kate and see what's the what. I just don't wanna be stuck in the middle of some huge crowd. Feels like I'm suffocating."

"Maybe next year," she suggested. "There is nothing wrong with starting small... Or staying small." It simply wasn't her way.

"At least look out the window at the fireworks, maybe?" she tried. "That's halfway there, I say."

"I told Kate that we'd go outside and check them out from here," he said, nodding. "Abigail's out too and I'm sure she's taking pictures. You going out?"

"Meeting people in a half hour or so," she told him, nodding even if he couldn't see it. "Center of Paris, probably won't be much better than New York, but I'm willing to brave it." Angela actually went the opposite direction from Hannibal. Last year had really only made her want people around her when going out late all the more.

"And I have a roommate I need to drag out with me who otherwise would be camping out our room all night."

"Center of Paris sounds like it'll be nice," Hannibal replied, nodding. "Crowded but nice. The Eiffel Tower around there?"

He didn't know his geography that well.

"Sort of." She could see it at least if she went outside, and not too distantly. "But I wont be going that far. There's a nice bar just down the road, and if I tried to make it anywhere further I probably should've left by now." It wasn't so far too midnight at all, for her.

"We'll be able to drink sparkly wine and watch fireworks, which is the important part."

"Sparkly wine?" Hannibal repeated, sounding halfway amused. "How girly o you."
