He'd had a nightmare last night. It wasn't uncommon, he'd been having them a lot since becoming cured of the vampirism but that didn't make them suck any less. The only good thing was that he hadn't woken up with a scream which meant Abigail hadn't come running and he hadn't had to explain visions of blood, bone and flesh that he could see in his mind's eyes.
It was still early morning but he wasn't going to sleep anymore. The day had turned cooler and the sun was hidden behind drifting clouds. Standing at the window now, arms crossed and eyes watching nothing at all, Hannibal knew he had to do something. Spending days and nights locked up in his room wasn't doing anything to help.
Getting a job would be the easiest but he knew he'd have to be around people and he still didn't trust himself completely. Abigail and her friends had assured him that the treatment was complete and there wasn't a trace of vampire left in him. He believed them but he just didn't believe in himself. Even if the vampire part of him had been the motivating factor in all that death, it had still been his body and it was hard to forget that. He'd never forget that.
He thought about leaving too. Kate had made mention of going to the island but he'd rejected that idea for several reasons. It was hard to face people who'd once called his friends. He did consider taking a solitary trip across the country, hitchhiking where he needed to go and just staying to himself. Maybe it'd give him the time and space he needed. No contact with anyone, no possibility of hurting people he loved.
That idea was becoming more and more attractive to him and he'd even started moving around the room, tossing things into a small bag with the intent of leaving before anyone got up. He could sneak out and be two hours away by foot if he hurried.
It seemed like the thing to do.
