It had been a retrovirus. That was the explanation Hannibal had been given once he'd come out of the painful haze he'd been stuck in for days. A retrovirus had wiped out all the physical and mental characteristics of what he'd formerly been. Hannibal couldn't even say it.
Abigail had mostly left him alone, understanding that he needed time and space to come to grips with what happened. With what he'd done. He'd been spending that time locked away in a tiny room. In the past, he might have kept the lights off and the blinds drawn but that just seemed to be something the other him would have done so he had several lights on and the curtains opened, bringing in the streaming sunlight. He stood right in front of him, letting the sun warm his skin and assure him he wasn't what he was.
He wasn't a vampire. Anymore. The memories though, they remained and they were giving him a headache. There were just so many of them. They seemed so sharp, so acute. Blood, pain, screams, tears, and fear. There was so much fear and he didn't really know how to deal with it all. Crying, maybe. It wouldn't help. Punching a wall? He'd break his hand.
He didn't even want to think of Danica and her little gang. He didn't want to think about the fact that he'd gotten himself into this and he'd been weak enough to let it happen and he'd been stupid enough to fall for some girl's charms. He hated himself. He hated everything about himself.
Someone knocked on the door. It was Abigail, he knew and he didn't answer. She'd go away shortly, taking the hint without forcing anything yet. She'd save that for later when she got tired of his self pity and self loathing.
Without giving himself time to think about it, Hannibal pulled out his phone and sent an i'm sorry text to a few people. Just a few. He didn't even expect a response but he had to do something. Apologies weren't going to be sufficient, not to him, but he had to do something or feel like he was just waiting for the grief and anger to kill him.
That done, he continued looking out the window and standing in the sun.
[NFB but open for interaction if someone wants to respond to that text, of course. If you think he'd have sent you a text, you got one omg. Hannibal's been cured of the vampirism by a retrovirus as per Blade canon. Thank you for letting him be evil for a few months!]
