Hi people! I was making some air dry clay sweet deco stuff last night and something really irked me. Looking around tutorials on the Internet,...is it me or does the UK have really crap air dry clay? The US have tons of high quality choices like Delight, Hearty, etc and have chain craft stores like Joann's and Michael's. Japan obviously has amazing stuff that is meant for decoden with easy accessibility but us UK-goes just seem to have crap.
The only brand of air dry clay I can find in the UK is Das, which I use. Looking around, everyone else's clay seems fluffy and light whilst the UK's is wet and stodgy to work with; it's like working with very very thick dough. Everyone else's clay actually looks white before they colour it - the UK's is a gross, wet kind of grey and doesn't even dry that white.
Das claims that professional artists and modellers use it. Yeah right! This is what they claim their clay to be like:
It looks lovely and malleable in the photo of the packaging and looks too white to be true on the CGI "clay".
And this is what it's actually like:
Grey in colour and really thick and stodgy, like dumpling dough. XD
I love polymer clay but find that for big creations like necklace pendants and large deco items, it's far too expensive. Maybe I should try cold porcelain - I've never tried it before but it looks good and you can make it at home. What do you guys think - am I being whiny or is this how air dry clay is and it's just me? And what are your thoughts on cold porcelain? And what's paper clay, whilst I'm at it? Thanks! >____
