English I:

My Valentine's present to you: Please drop by my office anytime on Monday, Feb 13. You will find papers inside an envelope marked "ENGLISH 1" tacked to my corkboard. Search for the paper with your name on it. Read this essay; it's by a classmate. Once you're done, use a pencil or a pen in an ink color different from the one your classmate used to make corrections for punctuation, capitalization, spelling, pronoun use, article use, and verb tense errors that you find (10 points x 2). Then answer the following questions:

1. (10 points x 2) Do you think that this essay is well-written? Why or why not? (minimum 200 words; maximum 500)
2. (10 points x 3) What can be done (in addition to the corrections you've made) to improve this essay? (minimum 200 words; maximum 700)

We'll hold our first exam on February 17, 2006. Just bring a pen.

English 11: (EDITED FOR CLARIFICATION)

1. Please slip your homework for "Games" under my office door tom (Fri, Feb 10, 2006)

2. Please pick up your corrected seatwork from outside my door on Monday, February 13; they will be in an envelope marked "English 11." This is the seatwork we did in class about The Mats, Prof. Quemada's Last Words, The Ghost of La Casa Grande, and Every Man She Kisses Dies. You will revise your answers to each of the four questions and type these up; this assignment may NOT be e-mailed, but must be submitted in printed form (please observe the correct format) on or before 7 pm at my office on Tuesday, February 14 (please SLIP your papers UNDER the door; do NOT leave them tacked to the corkboard or inside any of the boxes/envelopes outside the door).

ADDED AT 9:44 PM: Also, please repeat the botched homework/seatwork for last week (where several of you tackled essays instead of the short stories on our schedule) using TWO (2) stories we haven't discussed in class yet. Same question as last time. This homework is due on Friday, Feb. 17.

CW 100:

We proceed with our "exam/workshop" on Saturday as usual. Let's see if we can go from 1-10, shall we? I'll bring the munchies. Please write your name on your copy and be sure to write your comments on them; I will collect and grade these comments after the workshop. No need to comment on your own work, not unless you REALLY feel like it!
