Why did I wait until I was 24 before I ever tried using an angle grinder? It's load of fun and sparks shoot everywhere! ace!

Yesterday was my birthday. I had a fantastic day - thankyou to everyone who wished my well. jabbawokkki made the day super good - just being unspeakably lovely non-stop all day. I got some presents too - not only has sarah arranged for us to go to see the rocky horror show live in woking (next saturday - not this last one) she also got me two presents - a new graphics card for my PC (I don't have to be ashamed of my doom 3 framerate ever again!) and an alarm clock that wakes us up with sunlight - so we don't ever have to hear that awful nokia mobile phone alarm ever again. we woke up really peacefully this morning. I got some other stuff too- bee_tourist sent me the new madonna album - it has some good motivational beats on it and also the tackiest cards evar with lights & sound! from my parents I got money and an argos catalogue number to spend it on - I told them I could do with some knives for cooking - they sourced some at argos - Sabbatier ones - gonna get them when the cheque clears. Also sarah's family got me a book all about restoring my car which is really appropriate considering what I've been upto today.

For a while now i've been fretting about Bixie the BMW's rusty rear arches. Today I set about fixing them - well the worst one anyway - the other can wait a little longer. I got up at 8 when sarah left for work and I've spent about 6 hours prepping the area around the arch ready for some new paint - hence the angle grinding. When I bought the car I could see there was some rust around the arches but I spent a good few minutes pulling and pushing at them to ensure they were solid underneath before I bought her. Today was the moment of truth as I stripped away the paint and rust down to the bare metal and yess - solid! ace! Now I did have to grind away pretty hard to clear all of the rust and managed to make a tiny hole as one part of the metal wore very thin - I went down to Halfords and got a tube of filler an pretty soon there was no longer any hole - I hope this doesn't come back to haunt me. I'm thinking this bit of DIY is more cosmetic than anything - I'll keep Bixie going for the next year and then next winter I'll worry about getting some new rear wings welded in. I've just done the first coat of primer - got to go and do another now - I'm sure I'll post a write-up when Bixie is all pretty again.
