Over the course of MBSEF I rode most of my kids' boards to figure out if problems they were having were coming from their set up. As it turns out, that was the case with a lot of them. I rode a Burton Troop, Burton Punch, and a Burton Feather and I didn't like any of them. The Troop used to be a good board but the did something wack to it. It's too stiff now and a little bit heavier than I would like. the Burton Punch is really light and flexi, but it's also grabby, and doesn't edge very well when you turn quickly. The Burton Feather is really good at going straight and handling bumps, which I like, but it weighs like twice as much as my board! It's really hard to do good ollies or spins with it, but it's fun on rails. Anyway, riding those boards explained a lot of my kids problems. The girl with the Troop road all stiff because her board is stiff. The girl with the bunch always slid out on her heels when she landed 90 on a jump, which is because the board doesn't edge well. The girl with the Feather couldn't get big air or do very good 180's, which is because the board weighs almost as much as she does. I used to have a Burton Balance and that thing was soooo squirly. It couldn't handle any kind of bumps and you could not ride it flat based at all. So, I'm glad I got to ride those boardds, but I'm bummed on Burton for having such a crappy lower to mid level line.
