I put this ad in the paper last Saturday:
Free horseback riding lessons to a confident rider, age 12-17, in exchange for showing a green, 14h horse for sale at local shows. 317-5642 Kali
My objective is to find someone to show Zenny in kid's classes so that she will get some show experience and ribbons and be worth more. I've averaged 4 responses to the ad a day for the last 7 days in a row. Fortunately, the ad only runs for seven days so I am probably off the hook. I have one girl who will definitely fit the bill and I've only had three interviews so far. I have 4 more next week. I've had to tell a lot of people, "Sorry, I just need someone more experienced." I feel bad about it because I know what it's like to just really want to ride. I wish there were some way I could give all these girls a chance to ride, like if there was some grant I could get that would pay for insurance and crap... yeah not likely. Anyway, it's been really interesting to see how many kids there are out there who are in the same position I was when I was 14, where they just want to ride but their parents don't have the money.
And no, you aren't supposed to know what a green, 14h horse is. For the record, it's a horse who is not very trained and is 14 hands or 56 inches tall.
