(no subject)
ok, well today my grandmother left for Chile, after staying here for 3 months. Drive her to the airport, and I happened to meet the father of a friend there...grandmother left, and while we (lil bro and me) were waiting for our mom, a hispanic man (most likely mexican) approaches me and asks if i could help him out. He only speaks spanish, so i the 3 months with my grandmother helped a lot. Ok, so the story is that he had arrived to the airport , and he was waiting for his family to come pick him up. Well his family lived in Cullman, and he has no idea where they are. He had tried calling them by pay phone, but the damn things werent working. So he comes up to me, and asks if i could find out where i could get a phone card for him. So i ask, but of course the airport doesnt have that, so we get change for him, and try to find some pay phones that worked. Well we got to a pay phone that worked, but the phone numbers that he had werent in service, or nobody picked up. Well he had already been there for an hour and he was getting desperate. You could see in his face that tears were about to come up, so i was like shit, i need to do something for him. Well we try calling on my cell so he doesnt have to keep wasting his money, but the numbers didnt work again. So we go outside, and we try to find a taxi for the poor guy. We found one, but it cost $87.50 to get to Cullman, and the guy doesnt have that much money, he had only a 5 dollar bill. The taxi driver wasnt going to take him at first, but after 5 minutes of argueing with the fucking guy, I convince him to take the guy, and that his relatives will pay for the trip when he gets to the address. The hispanic guy was about to hug me for what I was doing for him, then out of the blue there's a voice that says..." Tio!!!" (Uncle in spanish) his family had finally arrived for him. So they ended paying nothing, and I was so relieved for the guy.
This whole story made me realize how lucky we are to have a home to stay at, and family that will be there for us. I couldnt imagine waiting for my family to pick me up, and my only connection with them didnt work. That was probably one of the best feelings ive ever had, and I know I made a contribution today.
